Our Story
The day after the murder-suicide of two Blacksburg High students, we decided we must do something positive to prevent more children and teens from dying from gun violence.
Too often after tragedies like this people are shocked, but nothing gets done on any level to stop further tragedies. We want to change this - so we launched the Gun Aware Project.

Our Mission
We're working in the New River Valley and surrounding areas to:
1. Educate people about the importance of practicing gun safety.
2. Promote awareness and expand suicide prevention and mental health services in the region.
What We Do
In collaboration with the Montgomery County School Board, we promote secure gun storage in homes and vehicles through the BeSMART program, and provide educational material on the importance of gun safety.
Now, we're raising funds to help provide families from all backgrounds with gun locks to help secure firearms in every home in the New River Valley.

Why We Do It
Firearms are now the leading cause of death among children and teens in the United States.
That’s why it’s more important than ever for parents and caregivers to know how secure firearm storage works.
It’s simple: To help keep your family safe and prevent tragedies, it’s crucial to secure your firearm.
We Need Your Help
We need your help in the New River Valley to get the word out, raise funds, and spread awareness about our gun safety programs.

GUN AWARE PROJECT
Keeping children and teens safe from guns in the New River Valley

Helping parents secure firearms in their homes is a first step to make our community safer.
75% of school shooters get their weapons from home, relatives, or friends.
These gun locks cost just $3.00 each. Even a small donation can make Montgomery County safer for our children!
